I provide psychotherapy for children as young as age 3 through adolescence. I have received training in child psychology and development, which helps me to better understand the unique issues that children and adolescents present and helps me to tailor my interventions to meet the individual and specific needs of each child or adolescent. I enjoy working with young people. My approach is playful, warm, innovative and accommodating. I believe that humor, education, increased self-awareness, and an environment that feels “safe” are essential to successful treatment.
In order to help me better understand the needs of each individual child or adolescent, I conduct thorough interviews with parents, and often include conversations with school personnel and even observations within the school setting when appropriate.
I am an enthusiastic and eager collaborator. Because the environments within which a child functions are important, I maintain ongoing contact, consultation and conversation with parents and, when appropriate, the school and other professionals throughout treatment. It is important to get a comprehensive picture of each individual child’s functioning and needs and to enable all parties to work together towards a common goal.
I offer a variety of therapeutic techniques and I select the approach that best fits each individual. These approaches include play therapy, cognitive-behavioral therapy, energy psychology techniques and mindfulness, sensory and regulatory strategies, and psychodynamic/insight-oriented “talk” therapy and psychoeducation. Specific areas of focused treatment include:
- anxiety and depression
- behavior difficulties
- social skills, bullying and relationship issues
- attention difficulties
- autism spectrum disorders
- sensory and regulatory issues
- family conflict/relationship difficulties
